Hi, we’re Derek and Kirrily Blomfield and we are all about nourishing you with the grass fed beef we grow and produce here on our farm.

Our name – The Conscious Farmer – reflects us and how we do this. We truly consider the impact of every decision we make and how it will impact our environment, the quality of our grass fed beef, our local community and the people who will farm this land after we have gone.

And of course, how it will impact the people choosing to eat our grass fed beef, and that includes our own family.

If you’re looking for grass fed beef from the farmer, not from the supermarket, then welcome to The Conscious Farmer!

Eating from Instinct & Grass Fed Beef

Eating from Instinct & Grass Fed Beef

You may have heard us speak before about how domestic animals, like our cows, still have some instinct to know what to eat for their best health or to fix an ailment.  Wild animals certainly still have this instinct, but what about people?  Do we still have such instincts?

Our Instagram Story

HOO bloody RAH!! It's an absolutely beautiful morning here on the Liverpool Plains ☀️ - especially after 60mm of rain here in the last couple of days. Our biggest fall in 18 months!🌧
We are so grateful.
With warm days ahead, the pastures should grow quickly. (I think Derek's looking forward to a break from the daily kurrajong tree cutting!)
Thinking of those that didn't receive so much.

It's Spring time, and while the paddocks aren't awash with masses of green feed, the trees are still doing their Spring thing.
This Cypress Pine is covered in pollen that it's ready to let go of soon... and let go they do! It can let go as a cloud with a 'poof' all at once.
Great to see if you're lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time!

I've just prepped these beef ribs with olive oil, salt & pepper, ready to slow cook in the oven. Just before dinner i will pull them out, coat with a home made sauce and pop back in the oven until sticky. I'll serve with mash and slaw as per the recipe on our blog.
A fun dinner to greet the kids as they arrive home from their week at school! 😊

It's not much, but it's everything. These tiny little clover plants that have just germinated from this rain are so far away from providing feed for our cows, but at least they've begun growing and to us, that's everything.

A year or so ago, I shared a story of this old kurrajong tree and mentioned that it had been planted by my grandfather, which people seemed to enjoy hearing about. I think it's important to acknowledge his legacy now, because the very reason he planted the kurrajongs on our farm all those years ago was to provide feed for stock when times were lean, as they are again now. So, thanks for the foresight Ding!

And just like that the loveliness of Spring and the season's change is upon us! The first of the leaves that promise to bring flushes of green to the dormant yard. And with it, there has been rain for us, not large amounts, but enough to bring the first of green shoots back to the perennial grasses and the germination of little annuals across the farm. None of this new growth is enough for cow feed and more rain will be needed to keep the growth coming, but the growth process must begin somewhere and here it has begun.
